About Anthony:

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Anthony completed his formal education in 1973, earning an MBA from California State University, Hayward, specializing in finance. Seeking to broaden his horizons, he headed east to Bryn Mawr, PA, where he spent two years developing accounting and finance courses for the American College of Life Underwriters, assistant teaching at Drexel University and extensive textbook writing in the area of personal finance (Family Finance published by Little Brown). Two winters on the East Coast later, he followed his heart back to the SF Bay Area, and by 1978, he’d gone from Financial Analyst for a small real estate developer to joining others in forming their own real estate development company. It was quite a successful venture and served as a stepping stone to the formation of A. D. Bilich, Inc., aka Preferred Financial, in the fall of 1979.

At age thirty, Anthony borrowed $4.3 million for the development of an 84-unit condominium complex, located in the heart of Silicon Valley. To this day, he claims that he earned his “PhD in real estate” by successfully completing this project during one of the toughest interest rate climates ever. He borrowed the money at Prime + 1.75% then watched the Prime rate quickly climb to over 20%. While he had no shortage of potential buyers, many could not qualify due to the record-high mortgage rates. This, then, motivated Anthony to become involved in the mortgage industry as an originator of creative loans for his buyers. He’s never looked back – Since then, the primary focus of his business activities has been the origination of residential mortgages. Over the years, his company, Preferred Financial, has grown to be one of the largest mortgage companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a client base of nearly 7,000 and loan volume of well over $10 billion.

Anthony currently resides in San Ramon, CA with his wife, Angela. Their daughter, Lauren, lives and works in San Francisco, CA.

About Tim:

Tim was born and raised in Pleasanton California; He attended Foothill High and later went on to earn a BS degree at California State University Sacramento in 1993. He obtained his Real Estate license in 1997, and from there decided to place it with Preferred Financial.

In 1997 when he got into the mortgage industry, rather than starting to originate loans in a retail setting right away, he decided that he could learn more about the business by working with lenders as a Mortgage Broker Representative. He worked for four different banks over a 4 year period, which allowed him to experience more loan situations, and embody a greater understanding of the mortgage industry. This experience in turn made him a better loan officer, and those four years made him who he is today as Mortgage Broker. He is able to better serve his clients because of this base of knowledge, and the experience he gained helps him in negotiating with lenders in order to arrange better pricing and programs for Preferred’s clients.

Since coming to Preferred Financial full time in 2001 he quickly became one of the top loan officers. In 2006 he was promoted to VP of Preferred and then in October of 2009 promoted to President.

About Justen:

Justen was born and raised in Castro Valley, CA ; He attended Castro Valley High and went on to earn a BS degree from San Diego State University in December 2014.

He Majored in Business Management, specializing in Entrepreneurship, with a double minor in Finance and Real Estate.

Upon graduation, he began at Preferred Financial in December 2014, and obtained his Real Estate, Mortgage Broker, and Insurance Licenses by June of 2015.

Justen married his highschool sweetheart in 2016. They have a son Hudson (born in 2020) and a son Ford (born in 2021).

In 2019 he was promoted to Executive VP of Preferred Financial.

About Lauren:

Lauren grew up in San Ramon, CA, graduating from California High School in 2009, and Saint Mary’s College of California, in 2013. She obtained her BS in Business, with an emphasis in Marketing, and a minor in Economics, enhancing her college experience by studying abroad in Sydney, Australia and participating in a service trip to Kigali, Rwanda.

Lauren grew up around Preferred Financial, as the company was her father’s (Anthony’s) “first baby”. After spending two years in the Marketing, Public Relations, and Sales fields, she knew Preferred Financial was really where she wanted to be. She joined Preferred Financial as a Mortgage Broker and quickly became one of the Company’s top producers. In 2022, Lauren joined the Management team as Vice President and part-owner of Preferred Financial.

Lauren and her husband Kegan welcomed their first child, Luka, in 2022.
